What if the Supreme Court overturns the Affordable Care Act?

I like the Affordable Care Act. It is already a significant improvement to our system, and will continue to improve the cost, quality and availability of health care.

I find the almost universal Republican dislike of the act almost laughable. They all want the court to overturn the act but have never given a sensible reason why. Their zeal to bash Obama and overturn the bill could bring a rather unexpected result.

There is one principle that is absolutely essential in any decent health care system: EVERYBODY’S IN.

The mandate part of the Affordable Care Act does just that.

As far as I can tell there are only two ways to achive EVERYBODY’S IN.

  1. A mandate
  2. A taxpayer funded single payer system

Perhaps I’m not creative enough but I just don’t see any other way.

So… If the Supreme Court strikes down the mandate that leaves only one other way. It’s only a matter of time.
